Introduction to the Gospels

Note: Important information regarding the layout, background, as well as purpose and goal for this study I have put together in the Preface.

God has revealed four recrods about the life of His only begotten Son, our lord and savior Jesus Christ, in which four remarkable and essential aspects of the life of Jesus are emphasized amd set forth in more detail. These four records are commonly known as "the Gospels", and they are named after their writers Matthew, mark, Luke and John. The four aspects of the life of Jesus are set forth as follows:

Matthew — Jesus, the king from heaven
Mark — Jesus, the servant of the Lord
Luke — Jesus, the Son of man
John — Jesus, the Son of God

The four gospels do each have a small Introduction part. In Matthew it consists of only one verse, in Mark and Luke it is a few verses each, and in John the introduction section is expanded to 18 verses.

Furthermore, two gospels have a genealogy, an ancestral line of Jesus Christ, giving Jesus' genealogy according the specific purpose of the respective gospel: in Matthew the legal right of Jesus as being of the royal line of the house of David is shown, in Luke the genealogy goes back to the first man Adam as Jesus depicted as the Son of man. The genealogy given in Luke is found at a later place in the narrative of the gospel.

The parts of the Gospel records mentioned here really do not deal with events as such in the life of Jesus, thus they are placed in front of the mainly chronological sequence of the rest of the records.

The records about events in the life of Jesus Christ or else events which are connected to him and his life, really start out with those things which are recorded about Jesus' Childhood and Youth.
